Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Branson, Lilleys’ Landing Resort and Marina and Bass Pro Shops are excited to announce two new events for this year’s kayak/canoe race benefit Oct. 2, 2010.

The Dam-to-Dam and Dam-to-Landing races are two new race courses that will challege even the most avid kayaker. We are still offering the Landing to Landing Canoe & Kayak Race and Fun Paddle.

The Dam-to-Dam kayak race is indeed a unique race, a course of more than 19 miles stretching almost the total length of Lake Taneycomo. This event can be approached one of two ways by those interested in this course–as a race or as a lifetime acheivement, much like a marathon. Also offered in the long course is a 4 person relay, much like offered in marathons.

The Dam-to-Landing kayak race is an extension to the Landing-to-Landing race, basically doubling the course. For serious kayak racers, this is still an all-out sprint, covering over 6 miles.

The Fun Paddle will still be the anchor of the event, drawing people of all ages and skill levels to float beautiful Lake Taneycomo on an autumn day. This 5K-event takes just an hour or so to float with a great lunch waiting at the end provided by Bass Pro’s White River Fish House.

Lake Taneycomo is world famous for trout fishing. Beginning at the mouth of Table Rock Dam, the water temperature remains 45-50 degrees year round. Fall weather in the Ozarks can vary drastically, so participants should check for conditions and dress accordingly. The event will take place rain or shine.

Aid: Several safety boats will be provided throughout race course as outlined in event regatta and approved by Missouri State Water Patrol.

Post race festivities: A post-race meal will be provided by White River Fish House at Branson Landing following race along with awards ceremony. Participants are welcome to enjoy other shopping and entertainment following event at the Branson Landing or surrounding Branson area.

Spectators and supporters are welcomed. Restrooms will be available at race start and ending points.

For those who are participating in the Dam to Dam race, a food voucher will be given to them to the Fish House or any other Bass Pro Eatery.

Free canoes and kayaks will be provided free only to Stone and Taney County big brothers and sisters floating with their little brothers and sisters. All other participants need to secure their own equipment for the event. either bringing their own or renting from an area outfitter. Personal floatation devices (PFD) are required for all participants and will be provided to those who need them. Area kayak and canoe vendors are listed below:
